Statement on the Arson Attack at the Mosque in Limerick
We are deeply saddened and concerned by the recent arson attack on the mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre in Limerick. The incident, in which a petrol bomb was reportedly thrown into the building during the night, has caused understandable fear and distress within the local Muslim community. We are relieved that no one was physically harmed, but the emotional impact of such an attack should not be underestimated.
At Éire Dialogue, we see places of worship as spaces of peace, reflection, and community. They are places where people come to find comfort, connect with others, and nurture their spiritual lives. To see any such space targeted with violence is painful for all of us, regardless of our faith or background.
We stand in heartfelt solidarity with the Muslim community in Limerick and across Ireland. Your fear is understood, your pain is shared, and your place in this society is valued and respected.
We firmly believe that every place of worship, mosques, churches, synagogues, temples, and all sacred spaces must be protected and treated with dignity. An attack on any house of prayer is an attack on the principles of respect, freedom, and coexistence that hold our communities together.
In moments like this, the most powerful response is unity. We encourage people of all backgrounds to reach out, check in on one another, and continue building relationships based on trust, empathy, and dialogue.
Éire Dialogue remains committed to nurturing those relationships and to working towards a society where everyone can live, gather, and worship without fear.
